Currently I work with existing objects – taking them out of their normal context and allowing for new readings to emerge. My sculptures, paintings, drawings, and videos often employ contemporary and vintage stuffed animals, toys, film stills, and video allowing me to barrage the viewer with a series of character-driven tales and critiques. In the "Golden Child" series of digitally manipulated personal photos, I re-write my history creating a mythological aura around the awkward child I once was. As an explorer of the hidden side of life, I strive to make visible things that might otherwise go unnoticed. My ongoing series of drawings made with radio controlled cars allow for chance and accidents which in turn thwart predictability; landscape and figures emerge through a series of exaggerated and distorted lines. I see toys, playthings and popular imagery as a manifestation of America's worst and best obsessions, desires, taste, and humor. Distant memories may hover in my work, but I'm most interested in a transference of the materials/objects into something beyond their original meaning.
